    360 Kids Client Story: Jo’s Recipe Book Project

    Say hello to our 360 Kids Early Childhood Practitioner, Lauren, and her 8-year-old old client, Jo!

    360 Kids Client Story

    Jo has arthrogryposis, and one of his key goals has been strengthening his hands, improving fine motor coordination, and building resilience during tasks that can feel physically tough or frustrating.

    As part of his therapy, Jo and Lauren developed a “Recipe” project, where once a month they choose a new recipe to make together. So far, Jo has made:

    • Banana split pancake cake
    • Blueberry pie
    • Cake pops
    • (And more to come!)

    360 Kids client storyFor each recipe, Jo adds a handwritten and illustrated recipe page to his personal recipe book. Each page includes:

    • The ingredient list
    • Estimated cost and comparison of alternatives
    • A “difficulty prediction” score out of 10 before engaging in the task
    • Final reflection scores – once during, then once completed
    • And recently, Jo added his own “Yumminess Rating” category!
    How has this activity been supporting Jo to achieve his goals?

    What is 360 Kids – Early Childhood Services?

    360 Kids offers early childhood services across Australia to children of all ages and backgrounds.

    At 360 Kids, we know early intervention makes a big difference for children with developmental delays and learning difficulties, which is why our Early Childhood Approach provides tailored services such as assessments, reports, therapy planning, equipment sourcing, and individual or group therapy.

    We focus on building capacity in children aged 0–9, their families, and support networks, with services that can continue through to adulthood.

    What is an Early Childhood Practitioner?

    Early Childhood Practitioners provide timely access to Early Childhood Services at National 360. They are the first point of contact with National 360 and will commence the assessment process with the child and their family. They are professionals who work closely with the child and their family, coordinating and delivering individualised services and interventions.

    Celebrating World Assistive Technology Day: Empowering Georgia with the OMEO Wheelchair

As we celebrate World Assistive Technology Day, we’re proud to highlight one of the most groundbreaking mobility solutions on the market today: the OMEO wheelchair. 

    Recently, we had the privilege of prescribing and delivering an OMEO to one of our amazing participants, Georgia. This device is not only transforming her mobility—it’s revolutionising her daily life. 

    What Makes the OMEO So Special?

    The OMEO is a hands-free, self-balancing wheelchair powered by Segway technology. It responds to subtle shifts in the user’s body: lean forward to move, backward to stop, and twist to turn. This dynamic and intuitive design allows users with appropriate upper body control to experience mobility in a completely new way—without joysticks, handles, or traditional controls. 

    For clients like Georgia, the OMEO offers more than just transport. It provides freedom, choice, and control.

    Why We Prescribed the OMEO for Georgia

    Georgia is a young, active participant with strong upper body and trunk control. Her goals included increased independence in her community, improved access to diverse environments, and a desire to participate more freely in everyday activities. After a comprehensive assessment and trial, the OMEO proved to be the perfect fit. 

     As  NDIS-registered Occupational Therapists, we chose the OMEO for Georgia because of its: 

    ✅ Hands-Free Operation – Allows multitasking, such as carrying items, walking a dog, or engaging with others, without being restricted by hand controls. 
    ✅ Core Activation & Postural Control – Steering with the torso encourages ongoing engagement of core muscles, which can have long-term therapeutic benefits. 
    ✅ All-Terrain Versatility – The OMEO transitions smoothly across grass, gravel, and uneven surfaces, giving Georgia access to the places she loves—without limits. 
    ✅ Boost in Confidence – The ability to move independently in a stylish, agile device has had a profound impact on Georgia’s self-esteem and participation in social and recreational activities.

    Who is the OMEO For?

    The OMEO is ideal for individuals who have: 

    • Paraplegia or incomplete spinal cord injuries 
    • Cerebral palsy 
    • Amputations 
    • Neurological conditions (where trunk and upper body control is retained) 

    Every prescription is preceded by a comprehensive assessment to ensure the device matches the client’s physical abilities, goals, and lifestyle.

    The Occupational Therapist’s Role in the OMEO Journey

    At National 360, our Occupational Therapists provide full support throughout the OMEO journey, including: 

    • Initial assessment and consideration of assistive technology options  
    • Hands-on trial and skill development  
    • Integration planning for daily routines 
    • Ongoing training and support

    How Linkin overcame his anxiety about starting school with an Early Childhood Practitioner

    Starting school can be a daunting experience for a child, but when you have an Early Childhood Practitioner like Chloe in Tasmania in your corner, you have the support you need to achieve your goals!

    Linkin was anxious about starting school and could not be drawn into a conversation around it, saying “no, no, no” whenever school was mentioned. Because of this, the first goal for the family after engaging with their Early Childhood Practitioner, Chloe, was that his transition to school be accommodated, and that he would hopefully be less anxious about it.

    Chloe developed a social story including all the great bits about starting school, what to do when we feel a bit anxious, and that every time you go to school you get to come home. Chloe developed two small laminated cards, one that said, “I can take five big breaths” and one that said, “after school I can come home” for Linkin to take in his pocket as reminders.

    Linkin loved his story and read it every night for about three weeks, and after two weeks when asked if he was ready for school he would say “yes”.

    Linkin had a lovely first day, and when his mum asked, ‘What do you get to do after school?’ Linkin said, “I can come home.” He waved goodbye and off he went. Linkin met his first goal on his therapy plan!Early Childhood Practitioner client at first day of school

    Stories like Linkin’s highlight the wonderful work our Early Childhood Practitioners can do to assist children in achieving milestones like starting school. We are thrilled that Linkin attended school and had wonderful strategies to alleviate his anxiety. Well done, Chloe, and great work Linkin!

    What are Early Childhood Practitioners?

    360 Kids is proud to offer services across Australia that cater to children’s unique circumstances. Our Early Childhood Practitioners (ECPs), also known as Keyworkers, are the caring and knowledgeable first point of contact with 360 Kids who provide your child and family timely access to Early Childhood Services at National 360. They initiate the assessment process, and engage closely with your child and their family. ECPs discuss your child and family’s goals, coordinate services, conduct assessments, and may deliver individualised services and interventions using a transdisciplinary approach. All of our ECPs hold a degree qualification in childhood education, allied health or a related discipline.

    Who do Early Childhood Practitioners assist?

    Our Early Childhood Approach is designed to provide specialised and individualised services including, assessments, reporting, therapy planning, equipment sourcing, and individual and group therapy options. Our service focuses on building capacity in children and their families, plus therapy planning and delivery to children aged 0-9 years, their families and support networks. The Early Childhood Approach delivers support for kids up to 9 years old, but our services extend to children of all ages right through to the transition to adulthood.
